Snapchat has rolled out new AI-powered video lenses exclusively for its Platinum subscribers, bringing cutting-edge generative AI tools to users through the familiar lens format. The feature, which costs $14.99 per month as part of the Platinum subscription, creates dynamic video effects that combine augmented reality with AI technology.
The initial release includes three lenses: “Raccoon” and “Fox,” which seamlessly animate furry creatures into videos, and “Spring Flowers,” which creates a zoom-out effect revealing the person holding a flower bouquet. What makes these lenses special is that they’re powered by Snapchat’s in-house built generative video model, rather than simply augmenting existing content.
“We have a long history of being first movers to bring advanced AR, ML and AI tools directly to our community, and we’re excited to see what Snapchatters create,” Snap stated in their announcement.
How It Works
Platinum subscribers will find these new AI lenses at the front of their lens carousel. After selecting a lens, users capture a snap through either the front or back camera. The AI processing happens in the background, allowing users to continue using the app while the video generates. Once complete, the video automatically saves to Memories, where it can be easily shared with friends or posted to Stories and Spotlight.
Snapchat promises to add more AI video lenses weekly, expanding creative options for subscribers.

Industry Context
Snapchat’s move reflects the growing integration of AI across social media platforms. Google recently teased AI video capabilities with a background generator for YouTube Shorts, while Meta has incorporated its Meta AI throughout Instagram and Facebook. TikTok has also launched AI avatars for creators despite recent legal challenges.
This development aligns with several tech trends:
- AI-driven immersive experiences that enhance user engagement
- The merging of augmented reality with social media
- Premium subscription models that offer exclusive features
Snapchat stands apart as one of the few social media companies with smart glasses products, though reviewers have noted their current design remains somewhat clunky.
The new AI video lenses represent another step in Snap’s AI strategy, which already includes a ChatGPT-powered chatbot available to all users (with premium customization options for subscribers).
As social media platforms race to incorporate more advanced AI features, Snapchat’s proprietary generative video model demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation in the AR and AI space.
