Donald Trump’s family business has entered the smartphone market with a gold-colored Android device and mobile service plan that heavily features patriotic branding.

The Trump Organization announced the “T1 Phone” on June 16, 2025, at Trump Tower in New York. Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump led the announcement, promising a phone “proudly designed and built in the United States” with a price tag of $499.

What Does the T1 Phone Offer?

The T1 Phone runs on Android 15 and features a 6.78-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone comes with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage, plus a slot for a memory card. For photos, it has a 50-megapixel main camera on the back, alongside two 2-megapixel secondary cameras for macro shots and depth sensing. The front camera is 16 megapixels.

The device includes both modern features like a USB-C charging port and older technology like a 3.5mm headphone jack that many newer phones have abandoned. It has a 5,000 mAh battery and offers both fingerprint and face verification for unlocking.

The gold-colored phone prominently displays Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan on the front and features an etched American flag on the back.

The Service Plan and Pricing

The mobile service, branded as “The 47 Plan” (referencing Trump’s terms as the 45th and 47th U.S. president), costs $47.45 per month. This plan includes:

  • Unlimited phone calls and texts
  • 20GB of 5G data
  • Some device coverage
  • Roadside assistance
  • Telehealth services through third parties
  • 24/7 U.S.-based customer service
  • Free international texting for military families (with discounted international calling)

The Trump Organization claims the service will operate on networks from America’s three biggest mobile providers—likely Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile—though none have publicly confirmed partnerships when asked by Wired.

Manufacturing Questions

Despite claims about the phone being “built in the United States,” experts have raised serious doubts.

Tingling Dai, a Johns Hopkins University business professor, told the Wall Street Journal “there’s absolutely no way you could make the screen, get the same memory, camera and battery” in the U.S. at the advertised price point.

Currently, only one company makes smartphones domestically in the U.S.—California-based Purism, whose Liberty phones cost $1,999. By comparison, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, mainly made in China, costs $1,199.

Even Eric Trump seemed to walk back the “Made in America” promise during a podcast appearance, saying: “Eventually, all the phones can be built in America.”

The Trump Organization hasn’t disclosed which company will manufacture the phone or which suppliers will provide components. The phone is expected to be available in August 2025.

How It Compares to Competitors

At $499 for the phone and nearly $50 monthly for service, Trump Mobile positions itself in the mid-to-high price range.

Technology news site The Verge called the plan “a bad deal” compared to other offerings in the U.S. market. Currently, only Chinese makers like Xiaomi and Oppo offer comparable hardware at the $499 price point.

For consumers seeking U.S.-made smartphones, the only current option costs four times as much as the T1 Phone. Industry analysts estimate that completely manufacturing an iPhone in the U.S. would triple its price tag.

Ethics Questions

The venture has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest, as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which regulates telecom companies, falls under presidential influence. Critics worry that mobile carriers partnering with Trump Mobile might receive preferential treatment from federal regulators.

The Trump Mobile service joins other Trump-branded products launched during his presidency, including watches, sneakers, fragrances, Bibles, and his social media platform Truth Social.

For Trump supporters interested in the device, the company is taking pre-orders with a $100 down payment, though early customers have reported website difficulties and unclear shipping details. The terms of service state that all sales are “final and non-refundable.”
