Samsung has released three new foldable phones, headlined by the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra — and all three cost more than their predecessors. The price increases, Samsung says, are driven by rising memory chip costs. Whether the upgrades justify them is where things get interesting.
At its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, 2026, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8. All three run One UI 9, based on Android 17, and are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy — with the Exynos 2600 used in select markets.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Price and Specs: Samsung’s $2,099 Flagship Foldable
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the flagship of the lineup. It starts at $2,099 — $100 more than the equivalent predecessor. For that price, you get an 8.0-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen. The camera system leads with a 200MP primary sensor, paired with a 50MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The battery is a 5,000mAh unit — up from 4,400mAh on the previous model — with 45W wired fast charging using a new dual-path charging architecture that distributes the load more evenly across the cell. Wireless charging is upgraded to 20W. When unfolded, the Fold8 Ultra is just 4.1mm thick and weighs 215 grams.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 takes a different form. It is shorter and wider than typical book-style foldables, including earlier Galaxy Z Fold models. Its cover display measures 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1,248 x 1,972 pixels. The Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 for the 256GB version, with the 1TB option reaching $2,499.99.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the entry point into this lineup. At 180 grams and 6.1mm thick when folded, it is Samsung’s slimmest and lightest Flip to date. It starts at $1,199 — again, $100 more than the Flip7. In the competitive foldable market, thinness and weight have become key battlegrounds, and the Flip8 keeps Samsung competitive on both counts.
All three phones are available for pre-order starting July 22, 2026, with general availability beginning August 7, 2026.
The price increases apply uniformly across the lineup — $100 more per device versus last year’s equivalent. Samsung has attributed this to the rising cost of memory chips, which are a core and costly component of modern high-end smartphones. Foldables, which already carry premium pricing due to their engineering complexity, feel these chip cost pressures more acutely than standard smartphones.
