Android’s September 2025 update introduces practical tools that make everyday tasks easier. From AI writing assistance to improved file sharing and creative ways to connect with friends, these features focus on helping users communicate better and share content more efficiently.
Smart Writing Tools Come to Gboard
Android’s keyboard app now includes AI-powered writing tools that help polish your messages. With a simple tap on the pencil-with-stars icon in Gboard, you can improve your writing in several ways. The feature lets you adjust your message tone to sound more formal, expressive, or concise. It also offers spelling and grammar fixes, and can proofread your entire message with one tap.
“All proofreading and rewriting of text happens on the device, which ensures your data remains private,” Google explains in their announcement.
These writing tools were initially available only on Pixel devices but are now reaching more Android phones. The feature requires Gemini Nano v2 or higher, meaning it will work primarily on devices with newer, high-end processors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite or MediaTek Dimensity 9400.

Browse and Save Custom Emoji Creations
Finding the perfect emoji just got easier with updates to Emoji Kitchen. This feature lets you combine different emojis to create unique sticker combinations. The new experience adds browsing capabilities so you can explore all possible combinations.
With the update, you can now:
- Browse the full library of emoji combinations
- Save your favorite creations for quick access later
- Get custom emoji suggestions created just for you
This solves a common frustration where users had to recreate their favorite emoji combinations each time they wanted to use them. Now, your creative masterpieces can be saved with a tap.
Share Audio with Friends via QR Codes
The update expands Android’s LE Audio capabilities, enabling new ways to share sound with others. You can now pair two Bluetooth headphones to your phone simultaneously, allowing you and a friend to listen to the same audio content together.
For larger groups, Android now supports audio sharing through QR codes. Create a private broadcast and invite friends to join by scanning the code with their phones. Everyone can listen to the same playlist on their own headphones – effectively turning any gathering into a “silent disco” without disturbing others nearby.
This feature requires compatible devices that support LE Audio, including newer Pixel phones, Samsung Galaxy devices released since 2023, and selected Xiaomi models.
Redesigned Quick Share Makes File Transfers Simpler
Quick Share, Android’s file-sharing tool, has received a complete redesign that makes sending photos and videos more intuitive. The new interface includes separate “Send” and “Receive” tabs, allowing users to toggle between functions instantly.
The updated version adds several practical improvements:
- Preview photos before sharing them
- Open received files immediately
- Track transfer progress with a percentage indicator
This redesign addresses user complaints about the previous version’s confusing interface and brings Quick Share more in line with other modern file-sharing tools.
These updates continue Android’s focus on making everyday tasks simpler while adding creative new ways to communicate. By improving text composition, emoji expression, audio sharing, and file transfers, the September update enhances the core ways people use their phones to connect with others.
The rollout of these features may vary by device and region. Check your device settings for availability.
