DJI Osmo Pocket 4 compact gimbal camera with 1-inch CMOS sensor, rotating LCD screen, and three-axis stabilization, launched April 16 2026

Pocket-Sized Power, Global Launch — But US Creators Left Waiting

DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 is here. Here’s everything it does — and why Americans can’t buy it yet.

LAUNCHED · APRIL 16, 2026

DJI announced the Osmo Pocket 4 on April 16, 2026 — the follow-up to the Pocket 3, one of DJI’s best-selling compact cameras. The new model keeps the same 1-inch CMOS sensor and three-axis gimbal design but adds meaningful upgrades: 4K at 240fps, 14 stops of dynamic range, 107GB of built-in storage, and ActiveTrack 7.0 subject tracking. Global shipping begins April 22. But for US creators, there’s a catch — the Pocket 4 cannot be sold in the US at launch due to pending FCC authorization, a direct result of DJI being placed on the FCC’s Covered List in December 2025. More on that below. For context on other tech updates this week, see Apple’s AI leadership changes and WhatsApp’s new per-chat theme customization rolling out this month.

Intelligent Tracking — Tap to Explore

The Pocket 4’s AI-assisted shooting modes explained

🎯
ActiveTrack 7.0
Subject stays locked in-frame, even in crowds
Double-tap your subject and the camera keeps them centered. Works on people, vehicles, and pets. Tracking remains active at up to 4x zoom — a feature not available on the Pocket 3’s ActiveTrack 6.0.
💡
Spotlight Follow
Camera stays on subject while gimbal moves freely
The gimbal rotates to follow a locked subject while you move around. Good for cinematic coverage where you want camera movement in the frame, not just static framing.
📐
Dynamic Framing
Automatic recomposition as subjects move
The camera adjusts framing in real-time based on subject position and movement — useful for solo creators who need automated direction while moving through a scene.
👤
Registered Subject Priority
Recognize and lock onto a specific pre-registered person
Pre-register a subject’s face. When that person appears in frame, the camera prioritizes tracking them over others — useful in group settings like events or crowded spaces.
Gesture Control
Trigger recording and tracking without touching the camera
Show your palm (Palm Gesture) to toggle ActiveTrack. Flash a peace sign (V Gesture) to take a photo or start/stop recording. Useful for hands-free solo vlogging.
🔒
Subject Lock Tracking
Auto-lock on a selected subject and follow them
When enabled, the camera automatically locks onto and continuously tracks a selected subject. A new subject can be swapped in with a single tap on the screen.

Why US Buyers Can’t Get the Pocket 4

The FCC Covered List situation, explained simply

The Pocket 4 was submitted for FCC authorization, but approval did not come through before DJI was placed on the FCC’s Covered List on December 22, 2025. That listing means no new, unauthorized DJI products can enter the US market through official channels.

2024 NDAA
The US National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) set a December 2025 deadline for security agencies to audit DJI. If no audit was completed, DJI products would be automatically added to the FCC’s Covered List.
December 22, 2025
No US agency completed the audit. DJI’s full product line — drones, gimbals, cameras, microphones — was added to the FCC Covered List. Equipment already approved before this date remained exempt.
February 2026
DJI filed a lawsuit against the FCC, arguing the designation is procedurally and substantively flawed. The case is pending at the Ninth Circuit.
April 16, 2026
The Osmo Pocket 4 launches globally. DJI confirmed to media that it “will not be available in the US market as the application for authorization is still pending.” The Pocket 4 is not listed on B&H Photo, Adorama, or Best Buy at launch.
What This Means for US Creators
The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 remains FCC-authorized and available through US retailers. Products that cleared FCC approval before December 22, 2025 — including the Avata 360, Mic 3, and RS 5 — can still be sold in the US by independent retailers, even without DJI’s direct online store listing.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 was covered here with its full spec sheet, upgrade list, availability details, and the regulatory context around its US launch situation. The camera was announced April 16, 2026, with global shipping beginning April 22. It is not available through official US retail channels at this time due to the pending FCC authorization process. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 remains available and FCC-authorized for US buyers. DJI’s legal challenge against the FCC’s Covered List designation is ongoing.
